James is a writer, director and photographer.
His first film as a director, “The Magician”, will be released in March 2023.

His theatre work includes Flood, The Rubenstein Kiss, Hidden in the Sand, Camelot: The Shining City, McQueen and City Stories.
His first play, The Rubenstein Kiss (which he also directed) won both the TMA Award for Best Play of the Year and the John Whiting Award.
His 4 part epic, Flood, was a centerpiece of the UK’s 2017 Capital of Culture, and comprised two live plays, a thirty minute film commissioned for BBC Television and a short film. Flood was voted by Guardian Newspaper Readers as one of the Top 10 UK shows of 2017, and Hull ’17 won The Stage’s Award for Producer of the Year, and it’s BBC 2 Drama won an RTS Award.
His new film, The Good Book, another collaboration with award winning Slung Low was released in May 2020.
His play City Stories had a Residency at St James Theatre, London from 2014-17. In May 2016 City Stories then transferred to 59East59 Theater in New York City, where it opened to terrific reviews in the New York Times and elsewhere.
His play McQueen: or Lee and Beauty, about Alexander McQueen, broke box office records at St James Theatre in London and then transferred to the West End.
His play Camelot: The Shining City- which was produced with a cast of 150- was named as one of the top 5 UK Theatre Shows of 2015 by The Guardian Newspaper and was produced by Slung Low and Sheffield Theatres. It is the story from which the film The Good Book springs.
The success of Hidden in the Sand- his play about Cypriot refugees which played at Trafalgar Studios in London in 2013- led to him being asked to give a lecture at the House of Parliament for the All Party Commission on Cyprus.
Whilst still a student his adaptation of Macbeth for four actors played to the Japanese Royal Family at the Globe Theatre in Tokyo.
His TV Drama If We Dead Awaken was made by Channel 4 in 2012 as part of the Coming Up Season.
He is under commission to write a new play for Chichester Festival Theatre, and has two feature films in development.
He is Associate Artist of the Oxford Playhouse, an Associate of Wilton’s Music Hall.
He was CEO and Director of NSDF- the iconic UK Theatre Festival- from 2019-2022. When he took over NSDF the organisation was close to bankruptcy. After three years of his leadership NSDF had seen a 335% increase in participants, created the first ever fully online festival in the UK, won a major national award as “UK Digital Trailblazers” and he had been named in The Stage 100 of the most influential people in the UK theatre.
